In the 1950's, as an American in a foreign country, they might not know the words "American Citizen", but you could point to yourself and say "Marilyn Monroe, Coca-Cola" and they would immediately say "Ah, American!" The Soviets, quite confident that they were pulling ahead of America would say, "America- all they have is chewing gum, Coca-Cola and Marilyn Monroe". Yet when Nikita Khrushchev visited the U.S. he wanted to see Disneyland and meet Marilyn Monroe. U.S. "security concerns" keep him from seeing Disneyland. But he did get to meet Marilyn at a luncheon, who wore a black net dress with a translucent top, and Khrushchev seemed delighted to see her. But, while diplomatic, Marilyn later said Mr. K wasn't her type.
