DiMaggio may have thought that it was he who would be in charge of Marilyn now. Giving her the strong husband and father figure in her life that he believed she needed. Joe however was going to be facing stiff resistance from the other forces pulling at Marilyn. And his "tough guy" Sicilian upbringing did not prepare him for the highly complex, multi-faceted nature that stirred within Marilyn's soul. One of the vows requested by Marilyn of Joe, was that if she should die, would he place flowers at her grave every week. Ultimately it would become one of his great continuing acts of devotion to her memory-- a promise he always kept. Marilyn and Joe are suddenly married in Joe's hometown of San Francisco and plan a trip to Japan, via Hawaii.
