In the Fall of 1953 "From Here To Eternity" was released. The story by author James Jones' depicting the attack on Pearl Harbor and the personal lives of some of those who were there on December 7, 1941. In March, 1954, Just after Joe and Marilyn had returned from their Hawaii and Asia trip, the movie won the Academy Award for Best Film and included an Oscar for Frank Sinatra as Best Supporting Actor. Also starring was Montgomery Cliff.Sinatra's career had been in a major decline and the movie gave him a big boost. Sinatra and Joe DiMaggio were friends, and later enemies, because of Sinatra's affair with Marilyn.
