AND IN OTHER HEADLINE NEWS... Petitions for Statehood was the major local news when the "DiMaggio's" arrived in Honolulu. Also, Mutual Telephone had just changed its name to Hawaiian Telephone Company. Prisoner of War exchanges were taking place between the U.S. and North Koreans as the Korean War was winding down. But air combat skirmishes between Air Force F-86's and MiG-15's were still taking place. Were they Chinese, or possibly Russian? And in one of those tiny news articles that often say a lot, giant B-36 bombers and a "Top Secret" jet, believed to be the advanced new B-47 bomber, the "fastest in the World", had been seen passing through Hickam Air Force Base, possibly to participate in... Atomic Bomb tests out in the Pacific?- but the military wasn't saying anything.
