Planes from California arrive near Koko Head and turn right near Diamond Head to make their HNL approach. Boeing developed the B-377 based upon B-29 Superfortress technology used by the Army Air Forces. The Boeing 707 replaced it in the 1960's. Above is the view Joe and Marilyn would have seen from their Pan Am Clipper as their plane approached the airport. Behind Diamond head is Koko Head where Hawaii Kai is    today. At right in the distance is the island of Molokai, and beyond it, the island of Maui.
