Joe and son Joe, Jr. at Marilyn's funeral. In the end he probably loved her more than anyone. He was there to arrange her funeral, he had saved her from being committed to a mental institution. He really understood her great insecurity and vulnerabilities yet he had a difficult time expressing his own deep feelings to her. Marilyn had been growing increasingly dependent on drugs to make her sleep and wake up. Her failure to show up on time, or even at all, cost her her hard won movie career. She felt guilty about Clark Gable's heart attack, and had an unrealistic hope that somehow Bobby Kennedy might marry her. She died in August, 1962.
