Joe DiMaggio enlisted in the Army in 1943 and arrived in Honolulu by troop ship as a Staff Sergeant. He was       assigned to the 7th Air Force at    Hickam Army Air Force base. Called the Hawaiian Air Force before December 7, 1941, it became the   Seventh Air Force in February, 1942.
