Hawaii in the early days of World War II had the look and feel of a front line combat area. It had been          attacked, and Japanese forces        remained extremely powerful and aggressive in the Pacific and Asia. Martial Law had been declared and civil authority suspended. There were still very big fears of another Japanese attack or even invasion of Hawaii. The Royal Hawaiian Hotel became a military R and R center run by the Navy Submarine Service.
