Joe DiMaggio got to know a little about Honolulu during the wartime era and he was the type of guy who especially liked a good bar. One place he            particularly liked was the Log Cabin, run by Louis Benjamin. It was Benjamin, who as Joe's wartime buddy, would years later pick up the "Yankee    Clipper" and Marilyn Monroe at Honolulu Airport.

At left, the famous Kau Kau Korner "Crossroads of the Pacific" sign, a major landmark in the 1930's and 40's known to many thousands of tourists,      G.I.'s and sailors. Everyone had their picture taken with it, often pointing in the direction of their own hometown. Today Hard Rock Cafe sits on the spot.
