Like Marilyn, she was daring, sexy and way before her time.
Harlow didn't make it past 26.
"Marilyn" was a creation of Ben Lyon, casting agent at 20th Century Fox. He got her to change it because she reminded him of then Broadway actress Marilyn Miller. Norma Jeane wanted to use her grandmother's last name- Monroe. Jean, (her original name was Jeane) Marilyn's choice, was ruled out because it sounded too close to Jean Harlow. So "Marilyn Monroe" became a reality and her brown hair was gradually bleached fully blonde (of various shades).
